If you’re dealing with tooth loss, you know how daunting it can be. Tooth loss can alter your lifestyle, making it hard to enjoy simple pleasures with family and friends. Getting implants to replace lost teeth could be the best decision you ever make! Dental implants can restore your ability to eat and speak clearly. It will also boost your confidence and self-esteem. At Irvington Dental in Streamwood, Illinois, you can choose from different types of implants and options for treatment to meet your unique dental care needs.
When teeth go missing, you lose both the crown (the part that’s seen) and the tooth roots (the part that holds your teeth in place under the gumline). Implants are small titanium posts that are placed within your jawbone surgically to take the place of your lost tooth roots. Once the implants have fused with your bone system, they become the foundation for your replacement teeth.
Your implant dentists, Drs. Joon Han and Jae Yeon Choi offer the following options for implant treatment:
For single and multiple implants, we’ll customize your restorations to match the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth so that they fit right in.
Endosteal and subperiosteal are the most common types of dental implants. They’re both effective in supporting your new teeth. How they’re placed, however, differs.
Endosteal implants are small, screw-shaped titanium posts inserted into your jawbone permanently. This is done through dental surgery. Drs. Han and Choi will numb your mouth so you will feel no pain or discomfort during this procedure. Once the implant is in place, we’ll wait three to six months for it to fuse with your bone system, a process called osseointegration. After the implant has healed, we’ll attach an abutment to hold your new tooth and, lastly, your replacement teeth to finalize your procedure. Drs. Han and Choi will ensure you have sufficient jawbone density to support your implants before proceeding with this treatment.
Subperiosteal implants are metal frames with attached posts to support your new teeth. This frame is placed under your gum and rests on top of your jawbone, not within. Your gum heals around the frame to keep it firmly in place. Once healed, your restorations are attached to replace lost teeth. If you lack jawbone density for endosteal implants and don’t want to go through the trouble of a bone graft, we may recommend subperiosteal implants so you can benefit from implant treatment.
