What are dental implants?

How are implants used?
Our team at Irvington Dental uses dental implants in a few different ways, including the use of single implants or multiple implants:
- Single dental implant. A single implant is often placed when there is a missing tooth or space between healthy teeth. A metal post is implanted into the jawbone, which acts as an anchor for the final restoration. The restoration may consist of either a porcelain crown that looks like any other natural tooth or a bridge if multiple adjacent teeth need to be replaced.
- Multiple dental implants. Multiple implants are used when several teeth need to be replaced. This type of treatment is more complex, as it requires a detailed evaluation of the jawbone and gums to ensure the placement of the implants is precise and successful. Generally, with multiple implants, our team will first use a series of metal posts or abutments to anchor a bridge or partial denture in place.
